(2012) Hot sculpted glass. Again this is fresh out of the annealer. In fact I could wait and it was almost too hot to touch. :) There are what I call repeatable improvements in this, and I think its going in the right direction.

How do you make these? Sounds like fun! I made glass jewelry when I was younger but it was mostly just melting colors together and shaping them into very weird circles and squares lol

It's hot sculpting in the hot shop. You get a couple gathers on a (4 foot long) metal rod from the furnace. Sculpt at the bench using hand tools. Punty whenever you need to work on the opposite end. Apply bits and various gobs of hot glass when required... sculpt some more. Keep the whole thing hot, by re-heating (flashing in the glory hole)... a lot... or you run the risk of some or all of it exploding off the rod. I've got total destruction of the piece down to about 40% of the time...well, except when I try to get them standing on one leg with the other bent in an "L" at the knee... I still have 100% of those explode off the rod.

I might not have said this anywhere before, but these figures all come in around a foot tall (~30 cm).

Wow that's pretty big. Sounds like a really cool 3D art form that could be really useful and definitely not easy. How long do you spend on a piece? (if it doesn't blow up)

Hmmm... usually around 25-45 minutes. There's a point where I just can't seem to improve it by spending more time, and I just put it away and start another one, or something else. It's one of the things I like about hot glass. It happens and is over pretty fast.

No, I think the rule of thumb is double it and add 32... so over 110 Fahrenheit. But really, I'm glad you like it. I have hot shop time tomorrow and the next day so I'll be making more. :)
